MINERVA ELIZABETH "BETSY" NICHOLAS
married James L. Curbo, son of James and Sarah (Reed) Curbo May 23, 1838
in Lincoln County, Tennessee. James and
Minerva were found later in the 1850 Rusk County, Texas census. The children of
James and Elizabeth (NICHOLAS) Curbo: Hannah, Julia,
Newton, Thomas,
and Martha. Newton Curbo married Roma Catherine NICHOLAS. Romy and her
son William Curbo are found in the 1880 Cooke County, Texas census living with
a brother-in-law Milton C. Waits.
Thomas and Manerva NICHOLAS' daughter Sarah
America married Thomas Benton Curbo, son of James L. and Minerva (NICHOLAS) Curbo. Sarah
and her family were one of the households that were in Giles, County, Tennessee
census in 1850. Thomas and Sarah (NICHOLAS) Curbo are found in the 1880
Rusk County, Texas census. They both are buried in the Moyers Cemetery in Rusk
County, Texas.
Theodore W. Nichols (should be NICHOLAS) household was
found in the 1860 Giles County, Tennessee census Southern District (Oakflat)
household # 1272, 1245. He and his family are four houses down from James and
Sarah (Reed) Curbo, NICHOLAS. These are the names that are listed
on this census in Theodore's household Theodore W., Rodi A., Nancy C., William
F., Mary, James, Hester A., and Roma.
THEODORE WILEY NICHOLAS'
son William
is found in the 1880 Rusk County, Texas census. His name is WILLIAM PHELPS NICHOLAS. He married
Francis Beulavista Curbo. She is the daughter of Nathaniel Curbo (son of James
and Sarah (Reed) Curbo.) Children of William and Francis (Curbo) NICHOLAS: William,
Emma, Alice, Mary, Lillie, John, Jessie, Delia, Annie, and John.
Hester
NICHOLAS also names one
of her sons Gaines Smith NICHOLAS and the Smith names comes into the
picture because that is Rhoda's maiden name. Gaines Smith NICHOLAS names one of
his sons Wylie Nicholas.
My
father-in-law, Weldon, spoke about relatives owning a turkey ranch in or near
Durant, Oklahoma. His grandfather, John T. NICHOLAS'
sister who lived in Durant came to Rusk County, Texas to visit with John
and other family members. Weldon spoke about a beautiful girl named Starr
accompanying them.
In my
research I found that Milton and Mary (NICHOLAS) Waits died in Durant,
Oklahoma. Milton and Mary have a granddaughter with the name of Eula
Starr. Mary NICHOLAS' death certificate lists her parents as Wilie and
Rodie NICHOLAS.
James
Thomas NICHOLAS was born in
Giles County, Tennessee to Theodore and Rhoda (Smith) NICHOLAS. He had two children that were born in Rusk
County, Texas. His son, James Webster NICHOLAS
had a farm about
two miles southwest of Bee, Marshall Co., Oklahoma where he raised turkeys
among other things.
